You are invited to visit Anglesea Barracks, Headquarters of the Australian Army, Royal Australian Navy and Royal Australian Airforce in Tasmania. It is the oldest Australian military establishment still occupied by the Army, and can trace its history back to 1811, when Governor Macquarie determined that suitable accommodation be established for soldiers of the British Army stationed in Hobart Town, on a prominent location, since known as Barracks Hill.

Anglesea Barracks remained as Headquarters for the British Army in Tasmania until the departure of the last forces in 1870. Responsibility for the barracks transferred from Tasmania to the new Federal Government at Federation in 1901 and has remained so for the last 120 years. Clearly, Anglesea Barracks has a long and rich connection with the era of British colonisation, the City of Hobart and Tasmania since the early days of European settlement and that tradition continues to this day.

What’s on offer:

• A guided tour of the Barracks buildings

• Accompanied tour of the Military Museum’s exhibitions

• Opportunity to view the extensive uniform and Cameron Collection

• Morning tea in the Barracks Workshop.

COST: Members $15; Non-members and Guests $25 includes morning tea
